Now available in the cafe, the Morrison Street Cafe At Home Cookbook & Food Diary is a handy A5 114-page, full-colour book featuring 33 recipes, most of them favourites from here at the cafe. If you’re not in Nelson you can still get a copy – just order it here. We’ll get it to you right away.
Showing some of the great things about Nelson, both out and about and here at the cafe, it is divided into 12 monthly sections. Each section lists what’s happening in the food garden at that time and how you can use the surplus produce. These are handy ideas when the kitchen is disappearing under baskets of unused tomatoes, zucchini, beans or lemons.
Each month there’s a seasonal feature recipe, well illustrated with how-to photos if it’s a bit tricky. There’s a monthly calendar so you can document kitchen and garden ideas, and pages to note your favourite recipes or ideas you want to try. There is a further 26 recipes spread through the book.
We talk about the art we feature in the cafe, our coffee (which we are passionate about), and things to do (usually about food) in the Nelson region. There’s also lots of bright vibrant photography throughout the book, and it has been thoughtfully put together by our talented barista and graphic designer, Noel Young. Some of the content has been contributed by cafe owner Kay Field, some by our fabulous staff members, and the recipes have been tried and tested by our Head Chef Karen Eden. Writing, photography and editing has been done by Sue Farley, freelance writer and office manager at the cafe. It’s been a real in-house project which has resulted (we think) in a great little book.
